  71. This package contains Grammar Slammer (Version 2.0), from English Plus.
  72. This document contains only a brief description of the package and its
  73. features, along with instructions for its installation. More detailed
  74. documentation is included in the package, but it is in archived form, and
  75. is more easily read after installation.

  77. If you have ever wanted grammar information at your fingertips, if you
  78. wanted to answer those questions that grammar checkers ask you, if you
  79. just are not sure where the comma goes...then Grammar Slammer is for
  80. you. It goes beyond a checker and is far easier than an online grammar
  81. book. It will vanquish your English anguish!

  83. Also, if you wanted a computer-based tutor to review English grammar or
  84. to present it to a class on computer, Grammar Slammer may be just what
  85. you need.

  87. Grammar Slammer is a demo or shareware program.  This evaluation version
  88. includes all features of the program, and is not crippled in any way.
  89. You may use it for up to 30 days or 21 trials, without charge (see
  90. GRAMSLAM.TXT for more details).  If you like the program, and wish to
  91. continue its use after this evaluation period, you are required to pay
  92. for the program (see GRAMSLAM.TXT for more details).  Any fee you may
  93. have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to obtain this
  94. evaluation version was a fee for their copying and distribution services,

  118. ===== Installation =====================================

  120. To get started, simply run SETUP.EXE, and GRAMMAR SLAMMER will set
  121. itself up in any 32-bit Windows version: 95, 98, or NT. You can run
  122. SETUP.EXE by choosing the "Start|Run" Menu option in the Program Manager
  123. and entering SETUP.EXE. You may also run SETUP.EXE by double-clicking on
  124. the SETUP.EXE name from Windows Explorer.
  125.  
  126. SETUP problems (rare, but do happen):
  127. 1) SETUP does nothing.This usually happens on machines which are
  128. configured for a language other than English. If this happens, you may
  129. manually copy the files to the selected directory. We recommend
  130. making a directory (folder) named C:\GRAMSLAM and then copying the
  131. necessary files into it. The files needed are GRAMSLAM.EXE; GRAMSLAM.TXT;
  132. GRAMSLAM.HLP; ORDER.HLP; ORDER.HTM; and GRAMSLAM.CNT.
  133.  
  134. 2) After setting up and trying to run Grammar Slammer, you get a "Path
  135. not found" message. This may happen if the WINDOWS directory is on a
  136. different drive than the Grammar Slammer files. Try moving the Grammar
  137. Slammer directory and files to the same drive as WINDOWS directory. If
  138. there is still a problem, check to make sure all files are present. On a
  139. few older PC's there may still be a "path not found" message.
  140. Check to insure that the file WINHELP.EXE is in your \WINDOWS directory.
  141.  
  142. You may add Grammar Slammer to your Startup Window. (IF the startup
  143. window is missing, consult your Windows manual for how to create it.)
  144. Edit the "File|Properties" so that the command line reads "winhelp.exe
  145. c:\gramslam\gramslam.hlp" and choose GRAMSLAM.EXE for the icon. (Clearly
  146. if Grammar Slammer is in a different directory than c:\gramslam, you will
  147. have to make the necessary changes.) Then check the "run minimized" box.
  148. This will cause Grammar Slammer to be loaded as an icon which you can
  149. click or double-click to call up.
  150.  
  151. 3) If that still does not work, try going into the File Manager or
  152. Windows Explorer, and double-click on the GRAMSLAM.HLP file. If this does
  153. not successfully call up the Grammar Slammer help file, then either your
  154. WINHELP.EXE program is not working or in the wrong directory (it should
  155. be in your \WINDOWS directory), or your machine for some reason is not
  156. compatible.

  159. Slammer program. Registred users can obtain Grammar Slammer with macro
  160. interface for the major Windows Word Processors: MS Word, Word Perfect,

  165. ===== Running GRAMMAR SLAMMER========================================
  166.  
  167. To run the program, click on the new GRAMMAR SLAMMER icon you just
  168. installed. (Double click on some systems). All you see is a little
  169. toolbar with three buttons or icons.  This toolbar stays on top of any
  170. word processor or program which is running in Windows. Click on the left
  171. button with the "G" and GRAMMAR SLAMMER will appear. When you are done
  172. using GRAMMAR SLAMMER, click on the "Close" button, and you will return
  173. to your program, with the Grammmar Slammer toolbar ready for you to use
  174. again when you need to.

  176. Click on the middle button with the universal "Stop Circle" and the
  177. program will close. Click on the right button with the Question Mark and
  178. a Windows menu will appear giving you some choices to position the
  179. toolbar where you want it, ask for help, turn the pop-up help boxes off
  180. and on, and get additional information. You may also get that menu by
  181. clicking once with the right mouse button.
